The Director of Media and Content Industry Division in Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since 2022. As the Director of the Office, Watanabe is in charge of promoting Japan’s media and content industry and expanding. After joined in METI in1998, Watanabe successively hold various posts, such as, Media and Content Industry Division, Asia and Pacific Division, Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, Intellectual Property Policy Office, and then assumed the present post.
